Practicing going in and out

For people who have trouble with guided imagery it is very useful to practice going in and out. To do this, start any guided imagery , choose a light one first, like picturing you bedroom at home. Close your eyes, relax, take a deep breath in, then let it out, let your abdomen rise as you breath in and fall as you breathe out, then picture you bedroom, see the bed windows, feel the texture of the bedspread or covers, touch the window sill, then come back, come back to your center and push you belly there. Push your feet down to the actual floor in the room you are doing the guided imagery in. then do this over and over , go in go out.

It is very useful to keep yourself light, let sounds distract you while you do guided imagery, instead of chastising yourself for not being able to do guided imagery, reward yourself for doing it, being distracted, and coming back, its more practice in going in and out.
