Your body resides in an infinite field of life force. (Hildegard of Bingen) When you make art, you open a portal that allows you to channel God’s light within yourself and others. This is the healing force; this is it. Through the creative process, you create an illumination of this light that heals us. You become illuminated and full of grace and full of feelings of healing. This all transforms into healing and all of us are connected to it and are healed within your light.

Everyone is an artist. The artist is the spirit of the healer within; it is the spirit that heals at the deepest level of our being. When we embody the artist within, we tap into the flow of the life force itself. No matter what your spiritual belief is, this is true. This life force is powerful and the spirit is its essence. The life force emerges from the essence of your source. Creativity flows from the infinite nature of life, to which we all are connected. Art is a healing force. Creativity is the reality of our being; simple, natural and intrinsic. It is our nature. Nature is the perfect expression of the constant force of creation which is happening all the time.

when you make art, there are thousands of muses, ancestors, lovers

moving your hands and sending you healing visions...

read it over, or make a tape or have a friend read it to you

or just know what it is and do it

Its not hard!!

and will teach you allot about guided imagery

Releasing the inner critic guided imagery

Relax deeply like we did in the class, Let your breathing slow down

As you breathe in, get larger, let space appear between your cells

let the space, fill with love and energy.

then,

Picture moments in childhood when you were told you could not do something
You could not draw, were too clumsy to dance, could not sing on key etc
Picture moments in a crit at art school where you made something you
believed in and were told it was not art
Picture moments in your life when you did something beautiful and were
told it was not the thing to do, you should be a lawyer etc.
In your minds eye see who told you these things
See them criticize you

Then
In you minds eyes
The opposite
See something wonderful you did and see a person people who supported
you and told you it was wonderful

Find ancestors, spirit guides, spirit animals, teachers, friends who tell you

you are the most beautiful creature on earth

Then
Put the person whose voice your heard (inner voice) who criticized you
in a room, box, sound proof etc
Thank them for the help if you wish but tell them you are making art
to heal and don’t need that voice now!!!

call the one who loves and believes in you,

physical or spirit

to be with you

when you make art to heal

Art heals by promoting a spiritual experience.

We call the process, the Spirit Body Healing process. It is a process we found in peer reviewed research at The University of Florida, Gainesville on how creativity heals.

In our research, we found that most people start with an experience of pain, and the first art images are dark.

Then people go elsewhere and make images that take them away from pain.

Next, they, become immersed in a creative process. They do something creative : making a garden, going on a trip, making art: painting, sculpturing, dancing, journal writing, composing poetry.

The next step is the embodiment of spirit healing which emerges in a spiritual dimension as an experience of trust, feeling healing energy and compassion.

Finally, people experience transcendence that deals with oneness, interconnectedness, luminosity, with seeing God and the angels.

Art as healing is about receiving love and restoring their life so they see their whole past as being loved. It is about visionary work and global healing. It is about changing a person's whole life so they are deeply in service to their community. They become different, powerful, and themselves. They heal themselves, others, and the earth. They are full of energy, intensely alive, and almost messianic about how art healed them and how they now want to do projects to help others heal with spirit .

The most important step is to make the first movement,

to draw the first line, to make the first sound,

the raise your head and dance, to write the first word.

We do that from a place of no judgment, from a place of letting go, of trust, of love.

And we let the process happen by itself.

As the lines increase, the sounds connect, the movements join, the words add up,

a piece of art emerges and we see who we are.

The art becomes a sign of our healing,

a visible or audible representation of our own transformation and healing.

As we see the art appear outside of us,

it looks almost like it has been made by someone else.

Its beauty and wonder are almost beyond us

and its message more than we could have known.

Yet we see it

and are witness to its message

of growth, change, and transformation.

beginning to heal with art

Cradling our sorrow, Ceramic, Nancy Fried, healing the grief of breast cancer with art,

The essential process of healing ourselves with art, writing, music, dance, or spiritual tools involves our own personal change.

When we are ill with a physical or mental problem or when we need to grow, we start to heal ourselves with art by opening ourselves up to our inner voices of change. We allow ourselves to listen to those voices and to let their messages to us emerge.

The first step is to see ourselves as an artist.

Choosing a medium is the first priority.

That may be done already if we have made art or played music before or if we saw ourselves as making art in our daydreams. Or we may have to ask ourselves what we want to do. Am I a painter, a sculptor, a musician, a poet, a storyteller, a dancer? Have I ever wanted to create something and been afraid or too busy to do it?

Clearing a space as a studio or place to practice is next. Getting materials together, orienting ourselves to this new world, looking at art, listening to music, being with friends who are artists, puts in the space to create.
