Public speaking isn't just about words; the speaker's attire tells its own story. Women's Wear Daily asked Eskenazi Associate Professor of Fashion Design Heather Akou for her interpretation of the navy blue suit and pinstriped blouse Vice President Kamala Harris wore at the Democratic National Convention. "In the U.S., navy blue is strongly associated with the military and police," Akou said, "while pinstripes are associated with the banking industry." Read Akou's and others' take on the Chloe suit below. https://lnkd.in/ggUeeE9b

Happy first day of classes from the Eskenazi School! The fall semester at Indiana University Bloomington officially begins today, but some students got a headstart in one of four Intensive First-Year Seminar courses taught this month by Eskenazi faculty. Whether in Deb Christiansen's "Fashioning Identity: Art + Artifacts +Fashion Theory," Carissa Carman's "Exploring 'Otherness' ArtX," Mary Embry's "Fashion Consumption in a Climate Emergency," or Spencer Steenblik's "AI and Making," IU students spent two and a half weeks getting their critical thinking cap on, acclimating to campus in a focused environment, and showcasing their projects in a program-wide Academic Forum in Alumni Hall. When Eskenazi alum Justin Carney's (M.F.A. '23, Photography) grandmother died, his siblings didn’t see much of each other for a while. When Justin started taking pictures of his family, that changed. On this week's Inner States podcast from WFIU Public Radio, Justin, now Assistant Professor of Photography at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, shares how making art helped his family work through the grief: https://lnkd.in/giB5RNwa. Drop by the Grunwald Gallery of Art September 6 for the opening of an AI art exhibition co-curated by Weintraub: "Blurring the Lines: Art at the Intersection of Human and Artificial Creativity."Pictured: IU student Isabella Cordell's final project for “AI in the Studio” in 2023 incorporated Midjourney AI in an archival inkjet print.
